11 Ingredients You Definitely Don't Want in Your Makeup

What We Don’t Use in Our Products

While some cosmetic companies will use products they claim don’t harm animals, they may still use substances or chemicals derived from animals in their manufacture.  Cosmetics, like those sold at ORGLAMIX are vegan cruelty free and therefore will not contain any substances derived from or exploiting animals. We have listed some of the common substances below; none of which are used by ORGLAMIX.

Animal Fats + Oils | 11 Ingredients You Definitely Don't Want in Your Makeup
Animal Fats + Oils

  • We avoid these kinds of fats and oils, and instead use ethical alternatives like coconut oil, almond oil and olive oil.

Honey + Beeswax | 11 Ingredients You Definitely Don't Want in Your Makeup
Honey + Beeswax

    • We do not use beeswax or honey. We may use alternatives such as candelilla wax or carnuba wax as replacements for beeswax.

Lanolin | 11 Ingredients You Definitely Don't Want in Your Makeup
Lanolin

  • Lanolin is collected from sheep wool and is used in countless beauty products from lotions, balms, to shaving cream as a water-proofing agent. However lanolin is extracted from sheep’s wool; and as such it won’t be found in Orglamix.

Animal Hair | 11 Ingredients You Definitely Don't Want in Your Makeup

Animal Hair

  • While animal hair might sometimes be regarded as cruelty free, it isn’t regarded as vegan, because shearing animals can be distressing for animals. As such, you won’t find any animal hair in our cosmetics range, such as our cruelty free Eco Chic makeup brushes.

Albumen | 11 Ingredients You Definitely Don't Want in Your Makeup

Albumen

  • This is often found in creams and moisturizers as it’s believed to help reduce wrinkles and offer other benefits. However, this won’t be found anywhere near our products, like our Organic Beauty Balm, as albumen is the technical name for egg white, which is obviously animal derived.

Ambergris | 11 Ingredients You Definitely Don't Want in Your Makeup

Ambergris

  • Solidified ambergris: the rare substance, excreted by sperm whales, is in high demand by perfumers, as it helps fix scent to human skin. Ambergris is essentially made out of a fatty substance that protects a whale's intestines when they feast on hard substances like the beaks of squids. Occasionally, sperm whales dump out hundreds of pounds of the stuff at a time. From there, ambergris has to float around in the ocean for decades, where it has to harden to become valuable.  A few ounces of the stuff can go for a few thousand dollars, earning it the "floating gold" nickname. You will not find ambergris in any of our perfumes

Collagen | 11 Ingredients You Definitely Don't Want in Your Makeup

Collagen

  • Collagen is the most abundant protein in our bodies. It's found in our muscles, bones, skin and tendons. It's the “glue” that helps hold the body together. It gives our skin strength and elasticity, and helps replace dead skin cells. However, many don’t know that it is obtained from the bones of dead animal. Ewww! As such none of our products contain it.

Carmine Cochineal | 11 Ingredients You Definitely Don't Want in Your Makeup

Carmine

  • Coloring made from bugs? It's true. Carmine which is derived form the Cochineal, a scale insect is used to give lipsticks and blushers that bright red color.  Another red dye used in cosmetics, FD&C Red Dye #40 (alternatively known as Red #40), is often mistakenly assumed to be a euphemism for cochineal or carmineYou don’t need to worry about either ingredient being in any of our items, such as our Mineral Blush.

Gaurine | 11 Ingredients You Definitely Don't Want in Your Makeup
Guanine

  • Guanine is a crystalline material that produces a shimmering or light-diffusing coloring ingredient in products like nail polish and mascara. It is made not from bat feces (guano), but from ground-up fish scales, which definitely isn’t vegan. Our cruelty free mascara is guanine and guano free.

Squalene | 11 Ingredients You Definitely Don't Want in Your Makeup
Squalene

  • Squalane is a naturally-occurring oil that almost all plants and animals produce, including humans. The squalane that is extracted from the liver of sharks goes into creating Shark Liver Oil, which is used in many products. Its greasy consistency is easily absorbed into the skin, making it a perfect ingredient for many products like lip balm, sunscreen, and moisturizers. Though many companies have stopped using Shark Liver Oil due to environmental concerns, it is still a widely-used ingredient in beauty products. You won’t find it any Orglamix products.

Tallow | 11 Ingredients You Definitely Don't Want in Your Makeup
Tallow

  • Tallow is a common ingredient in many products, including eye makeup, lipsticks, makeup bases and foundations, shampoos, shaving soaps, moisturizers and skin care products. It's made from animal carcasses.

Tallow is made by rendering animal fat, which means boiling the carcasses to create fatty byproducts. The dead animals used to make tallow come from many different sources, including labs, slaughterhouses, zoos, shelters, and yes, roadkill.

At Orglamix we ensure the highest standards of all natural, cruelty-free, vegan products to enable you to live a more ethical lifestyle and have genuine peace of mind.

We pride ourselves on providing a line of cosmetics that you know won’t have been tarnished through exploitation, abuse or disrespectful use of animals or animal products.
