We're officially half way into summer, aka vacation season. And if your bags aren’t already packed, chances are you’re fantasizing about what will be going into them once the time comes: The crisp white cotton dress for a beachside dinner, the bikini for a dip in the pool, or a new pair of hiking boots for an outdoorsy adventure.
When these have been tossed into your luggage, it’s time to turn to your beauty essentials, and that’s where the hard decisions come in.
Space (and the TSA) demand an edited approach to your daily regimen. Air travel can be especially hard on your skin, but how do you choose which tubes and sprays get to come along, and which gels and creams get left on the dresser? For help, we asked a few of our favorite globe-trotting It girls which of their in flight beauty tips that always make the carry-on cut!
REMOVE ALL YOUR MAKEUP First thing's first: Remove all of your makeup as soon as you board the plane. If you prefer to do this in your seat you can use a micellar water on a cotton pad instead. We don't care for makeup remover wipes, they’re just not that great for your skin and the perfectionist in us doesn’t really believe they remove all traces of makeup, dirt and debris.
MIST FOR MOISTURE
Splashing a little floral water on skin helps maintain moisture and keeps you looking fresh. This spray bottle’s all-natural ingredients feel silky when applied, leaving a fresh and dewy glow—unlike plain water, which can strip skin of moisture.
APPLY A SERUM
Apply a super hydrating, antioxidant serum to protect your skin from nasty free radical damage. Recycled cabin air has very little oxygen and dehydrates, depletes and devitalises our skin.
NOURISH WITH OIL
Apply a nourishing face oil over your face, neck, décolletage, eyes, lips and cuticles to keep your skin supple and moist. We love argan oil; and this one comes in a convenient, travel friendly rollerball.
ANTI PUFF CREAM FOR EYES Give the delicate under-eye skin some extra love with a separate balm, massaging it around the entire eye—lid and all. Feeling ambitious (or bored)? Ask the flight attendant for some ice cubes and put the roll on on ice for a few minutes before applying for extra soothing power.
APPLY A RICH CREAM OR BALM BEFORE SLEEPING
For those longer flights, before sleeping apply a rich night cream or balm to lock in moisture and protect your skin from the dry, air conditioned cabin air. We love this lavender infused balm. The 100% natural formula is enriched with a bevy of powerful ingredients to nourish and restore a youthful and revitalized appearance to skin. Nutrient rich flower extracts, butters, and waxes—deliver hydration deep into the skin and lock in moisture. Try it on your hands and cuticles.
ROLL ON GOOD VIBES Praised by even severe-headache victims for its efficacy, Orglamix Chill Pill, a fast-acting sensory-therapy formula containing peppermint, basil, and eucalyptus oils, targets tension and tightness in the face and neck. Rub a mere two drops into your temples, your earlobes, and the nape of your neck for near-instant relief.
Don't take a long-haul flight without taking these little beauty gems with you. Yes, it is possible to get more attractive en route.
