Is less really more when it comes to skincare?
Call me crazy. The whole Korean beauty blows my mind. Who really has time for a 14-step skincare routine? I certainly don't.
Growing up I read Freckle Juice dozens of times; and was determined to make magical recipes for clear, glowing skin. I started by mixing up my moms beauty products: shampoos, conditioners, bubble baths, essentials oils and anything else I could get my hands on in our kitchen pantry. I'd whip up a different concoction every time.
Strawberry vanilla shampoo. Lavender mint conditioner. Lemon lime face mask. Chocolate honey cake batter mask. You get the picture. :)
I wanted to go to the dermatologist — for the experience. At 13, I had a crush on a boy Matt Fox (sorry, Matt!) and everyone called my zits Fox Pox. How embarrassing! I digress.
Today, I believe, less is more. I don’t think you need a million products. I’m pretty minimalist in my skincare routine, even though I have a bevy of products at hand.
I have insanely sensitive skin.
In recent years, the beauty industry has witnessed a significant shift toward minimalism, giving rise to the "less is more" skincare trend known as skinimalism. This approach emphasizes simplicity, advocating for streamlined routines that focus on essential, high-quality products to enhance natural beauty.
Understanding Skinimalism
Skinimalism combines "skin" and "minimalism," promoting a pared-down skincare regimen that prioritizes skin health over elaborate routines. Instead of layering multiple products, skinimalism encourages the use of a few multifunctional items tailored to individual skin needs. This trend aligns with a growing desire for authenticity and sustainability in beauty practices.
Benefits of a Minimalist Skincare Routine
Improved Skin Health: Reducing the number of products minimizes the risk of irritation and helps maintain the skin's natural barrier.
Cost-Effective: Focusing on essential products can lead to significant savings without compromising on efficacy.
Sustainable Practices: Fewer products mean less packaging waste, contributing to environmentally friendly beauty routines.
Implementing Skinimalism in Your Routine
Assess Your Skin's Needs: Identify your primary skin concerns to select products that address them effectively.
Choose Multifunctional Products: Opt for items that serve multiple purposes, such as moisturizers with built-in SPF or serums that combine antioxidants with hydration.
Prioritize Quality Over Quantity: Invest in high-quality products with proven ingredients rather than an extensive array of items.
Simplify Steps: A basic routine might include cleansing, moisturizing, and sun protection, with occasional treatments as needed.
The Future of Skinimalism
As consumers become more informed and conscientious, the skinimalism trend is expected to continue growing. This movement reflects a broader cultural shift toward mindfulness and intentional living, encouraging individuals to embrace their natural beauty with confidence.
By adopting a minimalist skincare approach, you can achieve healthy, radiant skin while simplifying your daily routine and supporting sustainable practices.
My skin and mind, are overwhelmed by the abundance of state-of-the-art gizmos and and super creams promising complexion transformation: here at Orglamix we are making it easy to get back to basics.
My favorites for great, glowing skin are these five essentials:
Microdermabrasion Cloth Miracle Peel
Wash you face with this funky cloth and you can throw away those expensive exfoliators and scrubs. It gives you clean skin without a cleanser or soap. It provides gentle, yet peeling action that gently sloughs off dead skin.
Sunshine Oil
A powerful, multitalented serum that visibly improves wrinkles, evens skin tone, lifts, and brightens for skin that looks firm, fresh, and youthful-looking. Recommended for all skin types, ages, and ethnicities, skin is visibly firmer, smoother, more radiant, and more youthful-looking. I use this before bed and wake up, glowing.
Serum Stick
With the thinnest, most sensitive skin on your entire body, the area around your eyes requires a little extra TLC. This serum stick is the cream of the crop. You won't believe your eyes (wink, wink) once you see its transformative effects. I use this morning and night. They key is to apply to apply to clean, damp skin.
Refresh & Tone
These lightweight moisturizing mists boost the skin’s natural hydration with hyaluronic acid, MSM, DMAE and a weightless blend of natural humectants, delivering a hydrated feel and plumper looking appearance.
I love that there are a variety of choices, so you have options depending on your mood, skincare concern or favorite scent. I keep one in my makeup bag to set up makeup, one is my car to keep my skin hydrated on the go and another on my desk (peppermint or rosemary) for a pick-me-up. Simply spritz to freshen up anytime.
Hyaluronic Acid Serum
This is my holy grail, multi-tasking serum that does it all. It's pure and simple, yet super effective at plumping fine lines and wrinkles. It wicks moisture from the air, into your skin, 24/7. I use this right before I apply my makeup. If I'm not applying makeup, I mix this with Sunshine Oil.
Stick with these skincare products and you should be good to go in the am and pm in less then five minutes.

PS: If I could have picked a sixth item; it's this one. It's well-loved by everyone.
