Palo Santo, or Holy Stick, (Burseara Graveolens) is a natural wood aromatic incense used for centuries by the Incas and indigenous people of the Andes as a spiritual remedy for purifying and cleansing, as well as to get rid of evil spirits and misfortune; as well as for medicinal purposes.
It has a fine citrus aroma with underlying notes of frankincense, its close relative. It is often used by shamans in sacred plant spirit ceremonies.
This Palo Santo is sustainably wild harvested from Ecuador from naturally fallen trees and branches that lie dead for 4-10 years before they are harvested.
It is believed that a tree or fallen branches must lie dead for 4-10 years before the medicinal and mystical properties of the wood begin to come alive. It is also believed that the branches of the Palo Santo that are felled by lightning have the highest concentration of medicinal and mystical properties.
How To Use Palo Santo Wood
Light your Palo Santo stick. Let the stick catch fire, and allow it to burn for about 30 seconds. Then gently blow it out. If needed, you can blow on the embers to keep the smoke going throughout your cleansing process.
Say aloud or silently, 'I ask that the plant spirit of Palo Santo please bring blessings into the space.' To bless yourself, the space, or crystals, simply allow the smoke and rich smell of the Palo Santo to fill the room. To fill your space with blessings, start at the front door and walk clockwise through it with your Palo Santo. When finished, place the Palo Santo stick in a fireproof container. The glow at the end of the stick will eventually go out on its own.
Burn the end for about 30 seconds, blow out the flame, and move about any space you would like to clear the energy. Place smudge stick in a ceramic, glass or metal dish when finished. We love this cast iron cauldron for burning incense. Each set contains 4 incense sticks.
