Tumeric Scrub For Clear, Bright Skin | DIY Beauty

Instagram has become an epicenter of beauty discovery, be it crazy hair trends, DIY spa recipes and some pretty, damn good beauty products.  That's how we discovered Yelo Tumeric Scrub, an all-natural exfoliating face scrub that people on Instagram seem to be positively freaking out over. And once I got my hands on it (which wasn't easy because it's sold out), I totally understood the appeal.

The idea of using turmeric in a skin treatment is far from new; the ingredient has long been used in holistic medicine, as well as in DIY skin-care remedies for its antibacterial (and therefore acne-fighting) powers.

Turmeric has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.  In addition to warding off acne, it's a potentially valuable ingredient in treating fine lines and wrinkles and may help brighten the skin and lighten dark spots. That said, tumeric isn't right for everyone. if you have sensitive skin, stay away from a scrub containing turmeric because of the risk of irritation.

After mixing the mask with a teaspoon of water, per the directions. We applied and waited 15 minutes. Just enough time for a selfie --or a dozen, but who's counting? The result? Crazy smooth skin, thanks to the buffing action of the turmeric, chickpea flour, sea salt, and sugar—but not taut or dry. We followed up the treatment with a quick wash with our favorite gentle cleanser, and all traces of the yellow stains and the turmeric smell disappeared. In their wake was a glow-y, healthy-looking complexion that appeared subtly brighter, as if we'd dialed up the lighting, Facetune-style, IRL.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup tumeric
  • 1/4 tablespoons chickpea flour (for extra buffing action)
  • 3 tablespoons cold pressed coconut oil (for moisture)
  • 2 tablespoons cane sugar (for exfoliation)
  • 2 tablespoons sea salt (for extra exfoliation)
  • 1 tablespoon vitamin e oil (to condition and protect skin)
  • 10 drops lemon essential oil (for a little skin-brightening action)

Instructions:

Combine all ingredients in a bowl.

Remove all makeup and wash your face. Scoop out 1 tbsp of scrub and mix well with 1/2 tsp of water. Massage into skin in small circles and let sit for 20 minutes. Rinse well with lukewarm water and pat dry with a paper towel.

If used twice a week, scrub will last you about 2 months.
