5 Step DIY Nail Polish

Follow these simple how-to instructions to create a one-of-a-kind DIY nail polish from your current stash of eyeshadows and glitters. Colored pigments work great too. You can mix and match colors to your hearts content to achieve the exact shade you want—perfect when creating complex, intricate designs or effects. The best part? The process takes less than 10 minutes; and you'll most likely already own all the necessary supplies. Keep reading as we walk you through this simple DIY project.
What You'll Need:
- Eyeshadow (loose mineral is preferred because of its finer pigment texture)
- Clear Nail Polish
- Toothpick
- Paper Funnel (make your own with a piece of scrap paper + tape)
5 Step DIY Nail Polish How-To:
- Start by gathering all the above supplies: Eyeshadow, Clear Nail Polish, Toothpick + Paper Funnel.
- Next, gently tap loose eyeshadow container on the counter to make sure pigment is loose. If you are using a solid shadow, scrape it out of the palette using a butter knife. Because you want your polish to apply smoothly sans bumps, use your knife to smash any larger pigment bits into powder. You should have about a teaspoon of color, which will be enough for all ten fingers-- use slightly more color for toes.
- Using a disposable scrap paper funnel, add eyeshadow to clear nail polish. Feel free to get creative. You can use more than one eyeshadow color. Have fun with duochrome, twinkle and glitters for lots of cool + creative effects for a custom holographic nail color. Polish may also be mixed in a separate container for smaller batches.
- Use a toothpick to disburse pigment in the nail polish. Mix well.
- Test. Dip nail polish brush into the polish and paint on nails. Like a high-lacquered finish? Apply a clear topcoat to your manicure. Shine on!
